• Starc's top spot was in August itself

  • Aiden Markram's progress

  • Shreyas Iyer's ranking improvement

Australia's fast bowler Mitchell Starc has regained the top spot in the ICC Test Bowling Ranking after his brilliant performance against South Africa. In the latest T20 rankings released on Wednesday, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer has moved up two places to the seventh position.

After taking 9 wickets in the third and final match of the three-match series in Cape Town, Starc moved up one spot ahead of South Africa's Marco Johnson. The Australian left-arm fast bowler achieved a career-best rating of 881 and took the top spot.

Starc's top spot was in August itself

Earlier in August, Starc had overtaken India's Jasprit Bumrah to reach the top spot for the first time. Meanwhile, Johnson reached the top spot after taking six wickets in the second Test played in Geberah. South Africans could take just three wickets in the Cape Town Test, which Starc once again held onto the top spot.

South Africa's Simon Harmer also benefited from this new ranking. He took six wickets in Australia's second innings in a match-winning performance at Newlands. Which helped his team win and the series in their favor. On the strength of this performance, the off-spinner has moved up 9 ranks and reached the seventh position. He is now one place ahead of fellow player Kagiso Rabada.

Despite losing the top spot in the Test bowling rankings, Johnson further cemented his position in the list of Test all-rounders. After hitting a half-century in the third Test, he achieved the best rating of his career. In this list, Vien Mulder moved up one place to third place, while Harmer moved up three places to fifth place.

Australia's Cameron Green and Alex Carey have also improved their form. They moved up three and two places respectively to reach joint 19th place. West Indies batsman Justin Greaves has moved up 12 places to joint 38th position after his team's eight-wicket win against Bangladesh in the first Test played in Mirpur.

West Indies bowlers Joel Warican and Roston Chase have also improved their rankings. Warwick has reached 30th in the Test bowling rankings, while Roston has reached joint 23rd in the Chase all-rounders' list.
