Ahmedabad: Candidates awaiting recruitment at Gujarat University (GU) have expressed strong dissatisfaction as the selection process for 142 posts remains incomplete nearly a year after it was initiated. Despite GU completing several stages of the process, including examinations and interviews, further steps have been put on hold, leaving applicants uncertain about their prospects.
Officials said that in Aug 2025, GU advertised vacancies for clerks , accountants , administrative officers and other positions. Candidates clearing the first exam appeared for a second test. Results of the second examination have not yet been declared. Further formalities, including interviews for eligible candidates, remain pending.
Sources said the process has been stalled because GU has not received govt approval for the posts. Usually, recruitment advertisements are issued only after govt grants approval. In this case, GU is said to have proceeded on the basis of verbal approval, and the recruitment process advanced before formal sanction was received.
Candidates who have appeared for two examinations are now facing uncertainty, with no official clarity on when the results will be announced or whether the recruitment will be completed. According to the prevailing recruitment norms, if no action is taken for more than six months, the existing process may have to be cancelled and initiated afresh.
University officials, however, maintained that the recruitment process had already commenced and two examinations had been conducted, making cancellation less likely. They indicated that further difficulties could arise if govt approval is not received soon.
GU had initiated a separate recruitment process for persons with disabilities before starting regular recruitment, following govt instructions to fill long-pending vacancies. However, even after nearly 18 months, appointments have not been made.
