NEW DELHI: Vummidi Ethiraju, who played an important role in building the historic Sengol at the time of India’s independence, has passed away. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar have condoled his death.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the death of Vummidi Ethiraju by posting on social media platform ‘X’. He wrote that he was deeply saddened by the demise of Thiru Vummidi Ethiraju. Belonging to a distinguished family in Tamil Nadu, Ethiraju will always be remembered for his contribution in building the historic Sengol. This Sengol was dedicated to Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.

PM Modi further said that after years in 2023, the central government got an opportunity to give Sengol a place of honor in the new Parliament building. At that time he had the opportunity to meet Vummidi Ethiraju and express his gratitude for his contribution to the nation and culture.

Ethiraju’s contribution will always be remembered with pride

A condolence message was also released from the Raj Bhavan of Tamil Nadu. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that Thiru Vummidi Ethiraju has passed away. He played a historic role in the construction of the holy Sengol in the year 1947 at the age of just 20. The Governor said that Sengol symbolizes India’s cultural heritage, just governance and the transfer of power at the time of independence. Ethiraju’s contribution to its creation will always be remembered with faith and pride. He described Ethiraju’s life and work as part of an important chapter in the country’s history. He also expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the peace of the departed soul.

At the age of just 20, the historic Sengol was built

Vummidi Ethiraju made a significant contribution to the construction of the holy Sengol in the year 1947 at the age of just 20 years. Sengol is considered a symbol of Indian civilisation, just governance and the historical tradition of transfer of power at the time of independence of the country. In the year 2023, Sengol was given a special place in the new Parliament House. Thus Ethiraju’s contribution to the historical heritage of India was once again discussed in the country. With his demise, the field of historical craftsmanship and national heritage has lost an important personality.
