Chandrapur : With concerns over water availability increasing, Chandrapur Irrigation Project Circle has launched a 16-day Jal Seva Sankalp Abhiyan from Oct 2 to 17 to promote water conservation , prevent wastage and ensure efficient use of available water resources.
The campaign focuses on involving farmers , water user associations and citizens in sustainable water management, with particular emphasis on judicious irrigation, equitable distribution and maintenance of irrigation infrastructure .
Officials will inspect dams, canals and irrigation systems to identify leakages, wastage, repair requirements and bottlenecks in water distribution. Farmers, particularly those at the tail-end of irrigation networks, will be consulted to understand supply-related difficulties and ensure adequate water reaches their fields.
The drive will also address complaints related to water charges and other irrigation issues, with corrective measures planned for their timely resolution. Pending issues concerning project-affected families, rehabilitation and land acquisition will also be reviewed for early settlement.
Farmers will be encouraged to use water according to crop requirements, avoid unnecessary releases and follow irrigation schedules. Water user associations will be urged to coordinate distribution fairly, while citizens will be asked to report leakages and avoid wasteful consumption in homes, farms and other essential activities.
Executive engineer Jalesh Singh said public participation was crucial to protecting available water stocks and tackling the drought situation.
