PUNE: Fourteen women members of the All India Students’ Federation (AISF), travelling from Pune to Delhi to participate in a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, were detained at Itarsi railway station in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday evening amid security measures ahead of the protest called by CJP.

The students were travelling aboard the Goa Express when they were intercepted by police at the key railway junction. They were subsequently taken to a local hotel and kept in a banquet hall under restricted access.

Speaking to The Times of India, hotel general manager Deepak Chaudhary confirmed that the students had been brought to the premises between 6pm and 7pm.

“The students were brought in between 6pm and 7pm and they have been secluded in a banquet hall, with no staff allowed to enter the area,” Chaudhary said, adding that food and water had been provided to them as instructed by the authorities.
