Salman Khan’s defence of his former girlfriend Katrina Kaif during the recent Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 20 has finally prompted Pakistani RJ Dr Ejaz Waris to issue a public apology for body-shaming the actress over her post-pregnancy weight gain.

Following the 60-year-old Bollywood star’s comments on India’s biggest reality show, the internet personality apologised on Sunday, September 20, for criticising the 43-year-old British actress’ appearance at the Ambani Ganesh Chaturthi celebration.

“SORRY KATRINA KAIF, From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely apologise to Katrina Kaif for my recent remarks. After Salman Khan mentioned it yesterday on Bigg Boss, I reflected and realised that my words may have hurt Katrina and many of her fans. Body shaming was never my intention. I’m also sorry to Salman Khan and to everyone who felt offended. Sometimes words come out wrong, and I genuinely regret mine,” Waris captioned the video he posted on Instagram.

During the clip, he looked back on his statement about Kaif’s appearance and admitted that it had hurt the feelings of many people.

“I was just watching this clip of Salman Khan from Bigg Boss in which he mentioned me and said that I shouldn’t have said such things to Katrina. And after this, I really felt that I shouldn’t have said all those things. I am a huge fan of Salman and Katrina too, but I don’t know in what flow I said those things in the recording. I just joked a bit for the hook of the video, but a lot of people are hurt because of my words,” the RJ said in the video.

He added, “I am really sorry, Katrina Kaif, if my words have hurt you and sorry to everyone whose heart broke because of my reel. I know I said this in a very casual way without any intention of body shaming, but I don’t know in what flow I said those words. My words would have hurt, but my intention was never to body-shame. Keep rocking, Salman and Katrina.”

Addressing the reaction to his comments, Waris shared that the backlash had deeply affected him, while insisting that apologising did not make him scared and that he was strong enough to accept his mistake. He also hailed Katrina as the “superstar of India” and later disabled comments on his post.

The whole fiasco began when the social media host came under fire earlier after body-shaming Kaif over her post-pregnancy weight gain while reviewing the “best looks” of couples at the Ambani Ganesh Chaturthi celebration. Pakistani singer Ali Zafar also hit back at his remarks and backed the Fitoor actress.

Khan stood up for his ex after trolls targeted her over her post-pregnancy weight, questioning why people were commenting on her appearance when she had recently welcomed her son, Vihaan Kaushal, with her husband, Vicky Kaushal, in November last year.

“Pregnant hone ke baad everyone puts on weight” (everyone puts on weight after becoming pregnant), the Your name actor said, stressing that Kaif would regain her fitness once she returned to films. He also urged people to let her spend time with her family.

Khan called out anonymous trolls for targeting people over their appearance, asking why they judge others when they themselves are “aap khudh apni shakal se itne bezaar ho” (so dissatisfied with their own face).
