Delhi Modern Public Toilet Blocks: 500 modern public toilet blocks will be built in Delhi to provide better public facilities to the citizens and tourists coming from India and abroad. Rekha Gupta Government of Delhi has approved ₹ 266 crore for this project. These toilets will be constructed through the Tourism Department of Delhi Government. Maximum 93 public toilet blocks will be built in South-West Delhi. While 90 blocks will be created in North-West, 72 in West and 51 in South Delhi.

The picture of tourism and civic amenities of Delhi is to be changed by equipping public toilets with modern facilities. In the first phase, 500 toilet blocks will be prepared. After its successful completion, 500 more public toilet blocks are planned to be constructed in the second phase.

Toilet blocks will have separate toilets for men and women. Keeping in mind the convenience of the disabled and the elderly, arrangements for ramps and easy entry will be made. A separate space for caretaker room and watchman will also be created in each block. For the convenience of women, sanitary pad vending machines will be installed in these toilets. Sanitary pad incinerator machine will also be available for safe and hygienic disposal of used sanitary pads. Keeping in mind the everyday needs of citizens and tourists, a provision for a shop has also been made in these modern toilet blocks. Snacks, beverages and essential items of daily use will be available here.

Most toilets in market and highway

500 toilet blocks in the first phase will be built on priority basis in those areas of Delhi where there is high movement of people and tourists. 200 toilets will be built in market areas, 97 on highways, 57 in commercial and industrial areas, 50 around tourist places, 9 near big parks etc., and the remaining toilets will be built in other need areas.

Blocks will be equipped with solar panels and CCTV

The public toilet blocks to be built under the project will have modern facilities like solar panels, CCTV cameras and mechanical ventilation systems. This has led to an emphasis on making these facilities more safe, energy-efficient and user-friendly. Not only building construction but also gardening and furniture works have been included in the project.
