Lifestyle Desk – With the increase in mosquitoes during the rainy season, the risk of diseases like dengue and malaria also increases. During this period, cases of viral fever, cold and flu also occur. In such a situation, it can be difficult to differentiate between dengue and normal viral fever on the basis of initial symptoms. Complaints like high fever, headache, body ache, weakness and vomiting can be seen in both the conditions. This is why ignoring the symptoms of dengue as normal fever can sometimes prove costly.

Dengue is spread by the bite of infected Aedes mosquito. Many patients recover within a few days, but in some cases the disease can become severe and develop into dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome. Therefore, it is important to keep an eye on the changes occurring in the body along with fever. Let us know about it in detail.

Be alert if bleeding starts along with fever

Bleeding from the nose or gums, easily appearing blue or red rashes on the skin, vomiting or seeing blood in the stool can be serious signs of dengue. If such symptoms appear, immediate medical advice should be sought instead of waiting at home.

severe stomach pain and persistent vomiting

In severe cases of dengue, there may be severe or persistent stomach pain and frequent vomiting. Especially when these symptoms appear after the fever subsides, it should be taken as a warning sign.

sudden extreme weakness or restlessness

In dengue, the patient may suddenly feel extreme fatigue, restlessness, dizziness or lethargy compared to normal weakness. Conditions like cold hands and feet, difficulty in breathing or unconsciousness can also be a sign of a serious illness and it is important to reach the hospital immediately.

Decrease in urination can also be a sign

In severe dengue, the amount of urine may reduce due to lack of fluid in the body and affected blood circulation. If during fever the patient is urinating very little despite drinking water, then the doctor should be contacted immediately.

Remission of fever is not always a sign of recovery

An important thing in dengue is that even after the fever subsides, the patient's condition may worsen. Therefore, even after the temperature becomes normal, keep an eye on signs like weakness, stomach ache, vomiting, bleeding, difficulty in breathing or extreme lethargy for the next few days.

According to experts, if dengue is suspected, it is better to seek doctor's advice instead of taking medicine on your own. If necessary, the doctor assesses the condition with the help of other tests including blood test and platelet count. To prevent dengue, do not allow water to accumulate around the house, adopt anti-mosquito measures and wear full-sleeved clothes. A little caution during the rainy season can reduce the risk of disease to a great extent.
