Bollywood actress Sushmita Mukherjee has starred in numerous films that were highly acclaimed by audiences. She’s no stranger to fame today. However, there was a time in her career when she was forced to act in C-grade films to pay off debts.

The actress took out a loan of ₹1 crore (10 million rupees). However, her production company went bankrupt, forcing her to work in C-grade films. Sushmita Mukherjee has spoken openly about this.

‘I sold my soul’

Actress Sushmita Mukherjee said, “I still remember when someone asked me, ‘Ma’am, why did you work in bad films during your film career?'” Responding to this, she said, “I was completely shocked to hear this question. Because it’s never easy to revisit the worst phase of your life and explain why you did such sexist, C-grade films. These films were also very degrading to women.” The actress also admitted that she has done many films in her career that she is not at all proud of.

Actress Sushmita Mukherjee has clarified that she sold her soul due to financial difficulties. She said, “I never enjoyed doing these kinds of films. I didn’t feel good when I was doing this movie, and I don’t feel good now either. But I was very helpless at the time.” The actress explained that her production company suffered huge losses in 2002, which left her financially in dire straits.

Did Sushmita do C-grade films out of compulsion?

Sushmita further explained that in 2002, her husband and I lost our media company, resulting in a debt of ₹1 crore. She further explained that Anil Chaudhary Productions and Track Cinema, along with her, also went bankrupt. Her children were very young at the time, which forced her to take up this work. Whatever money she earned during that time went toward paying off the debt.
