New Delhi: The 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland, were a remarkable event for India. Indian athletes achieved fourth place in the medal tally due to their impressive performance. India won a total of 39 medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, trailing only Australia, England, and Canada in this medal tally. Sports like wrestling, badminton, and hockey were not part of the Commonwealth Games this time. Despite this, Indian athletes made their mark in boxing, judo, athletics, and para-athletics.


Indian boxers unleashed a barrage of punches that left their opponents stunned. India won seven gold medals from boxing alone. The women boxers dominated the ring with impressive performances. Preeti Pawar (54 kg), Jasmine Lamboria (57 kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (51 kg), Arundhati Chaudhary (70 kg), and Priya Ghanghas (60 kg) made history by winning gold medals.


Veteran boxer Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg) also put up a strong fight and won the silver medal for the country. In the men’s category, Sachin Siwach (60 kg) and Ankush (70 kg) delivered strong performances to win gold medals. Jadumani Singh (55 kg) and Narendra Berwal (+90 kg) took silver. India’s total boxing medal tally was 10.


Weightlifting won a total of 8 medals.

Tokyo Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu dominated her category in the women’s 48 kg category, giving India its first gold medal. Also in weightlifting, Rishikant Singh, Raja Muthupandi, Gyaneshwari Yadav, Valluri Ajaya Babu, Harjinder Kaur, and Lovepreet Singh won silver medals, while Bindiyarani Devi won bronze. The weightlifting team brought home a total of 8 medals for the country.


India won its first-ever gold medal on the

judo mat at the Commonwealth Games. Asmita Dey (women’s 48 kg) and Harsh Singh (men’s 60 kg) secured the country’s first and second gold medals in judo. Yamini Maurya won a silver and Unnati Sharma a bronze, bringing India’s total medal tally in judo to four.


Neeraj Chopra and Gulvir Singh shine

Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal with a brilliant performance. While Yashvir Singh won the bronze medal in the same event. Long distance runner Gulvir Singh created history by winning two medals in the same Commonwealth Games. He won silver in 10,000m and bronze in 5000m. Praveen Chitravel won silver and Selva Prabhu won bronze in triple jump. Murali Sreeshankar (long jump) and Sarvesh Kushare (high jump) also won silver medals.


Para athletes performed

exceptionally well in the Para Athletics events. Soman Rana (Men’s Shot Put F57), Sharmila Dhankhar (Women’s Shot Put F57), and Dilip Mahadu Gavit (Men’s 100m T47) won three gold medals for the country. Shubham Juyal and Mohammed Basil won silver medals in the same events. Jhandu Kumar won a bronze medal in Para Powerlifting.


This was the situation on the final day.

Luck was a little less favorable for the Indian athletes on the final day of the competition. Ishwarup Narang, Avtar Singh, and Yash Ghanghas were eliminated from the medal race in judo, while Harshvir Singh and Dinesh Kumar missed out on a place in the finals in track cycling. Despite this, India’s Glasgow campaign was a highly successful and memorable one, with a total of 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze medals.
