Ranveer Singh dispute reaches court after industry ban controversy

The controversy around Don 3 has now moved beyond casting debates and into a legal battle.

A week after FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees) announced a non-cooperation directive against actor Ranveer Singh, veteran producer T P Aggarwal has challenged the move in court.

Aggarwal filed a petition in the Bombay Civil Court at Dindoshi against FWICE and IMPPA, arguing that no individual or organisation has the right to impose a ban or issue a non-cooperation order against members of the film industry.

According to a press statement, court notices were served to both parties on 1 June.

The dispute began after FWICE took action against Ranveer Singh following his reported disagreement with Excel Entertainment, the makers of Don 3.

The federation had said the directive would stay in place until the matter was resolved and until Ranveer met its senior officials.

But Aggarwal, a former IMPPA president and a long-time industry figure, believes the issue is bigger than one actor.

“The film industry thrives on collaboration, and it is important that matters of this nature are addressed through proper legal and professional channels,” he said.

“Any attempt to discourage people from working with an individual should not be taken lightly.”

Speaking to NDTVAggarwal also questioned FWICE’s authority.

“Whatever FWICE has done is completely wrong and it’s not within their jurisdiction. It’s not something they can do.”
