Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the UK for the US six years ago, and ever since, they've straddled the two worlds, but it hasn't gone smoothly. When they originally left for pastures new they declared they wanted to live a more private life, but it was soon clear that they wanted to live a life in the spotlight, just in a different dynamic away from the life of a senior working member of the Royal Family.
But as they eye up a return to UK soil, we have seen the pair be a bit more aware of what they're doing in their private life, such as the chaos that emerged when they begged for images to be removed from Kris Jenner's birthday party last year. With some mistakes along the way and backlash to their multiple projects that have emerged over the years, PR expert Nikki Alvey, managing director of Media Hound PR, has shared her thoughts on the couple.
Nikki said that while their strategy appears to be "centred around public appearances", it hasn't always been well executed. She said: "The Kris Jenner party photo debacle illustrates what has been a "chaotic PR" strategy. Megan's lifestyle brand "As Ever" also hasn't been well received, achieving very poor ratings."
She warned that they're making one big error as Meghan's commercial content "just isn't relatable to UK viewers since it directly conflicts with what we expect from a working royal."
Nikki continued: "What I think they want to do is to have it all. Leverage the royal adjacent status, enjoy Hollywood celebrity access, commercial ventures, and personal brand building. This is problematic, however; no amount of strategic repositioning can overcome fundamentally conflicting goals."

She suggested that if they were looking to merge back into the UK and working royal life, they'd need to reduce celebrity associations and focus far more on serious charity work, avoid commercial projects and have quieter public appearances -- while staying completely silent on family matters.
However, Nikki said she believes they're trying to keep the royal connection as "leverage". She added: "They're trying to stay visible, maintain relevance and commercial value by straddling both worlds, keeping the royal connection alive while building American celebrity and commercial brands."
Harry has made it clear he's keen to keep repairing his relationship with his family after a meeting with his father, King Charles, took place last year; though he is unlikely to return to the UK without his security being reinstated first.
