When packing for a short or long-haul flight, there's a reason you should be wary about packing plug adaptors in your luggage. Posting to TikTok, The Points Guy - whose motto is "spend smarter, travel better" - revealed the items you should "never put in your checked bag", including a plug adaptor.

He explained that this daily necessity is best placed in your carry-on bag as checked-in luggage has a risk of getting lost. More so than that, if you happen to be traveling far, there's also the possibility that it could be hard to find a suitable plug adaptor - even in the airport. Another daily necessity (if you're going somewhere hot) is sunscreen, which is also best packed in hand luggage.

Additional items you might want to take in hand luggage includes an extra outfit, toilet essentials, eyewear, and medication.

The travel expert said: "You may be able to get a doctor to call in your prescription, but that becomes trickier if it's a weekend or a holiday or if your medication doesn't allow for refills before the previous prescription runs out."

Any valuable items, such as jewellery, cash, and objects of sentimental value, are also best packed into hand luggage, if space allows.

This is because there's a risk of luggage being lost, stolen, or accidentally taken by someone else on the baggage carousel.

In response to the travel warning, people flocked to the comment section on the TikTok video.

One user wrote: "Everything important goes into my carry-on. Meds, contacts, electronics in particular."

Somebody else noted: "I only have clothing and shoes in checked bags. Everything else is in my carry-on."

Another chimed in: "Scary that this has to be explained to people."
