Guwahati, Aug 10: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) from Assam has expressed strong disapproval of the government's recent order to dismiss cases against non-Muslim foreigners. They argue that this action is a covert attempt to enforce the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Assam.
The DYFI has labeled this directive as 'anti-Assam and communal,' claiming it contradicts the Supreme Court's decision, which established 1971 as the benchmark year for citizenship eligibility in the state.
According to Rustam Ali, president of DYFI Assam State Committee, and secretary Ritu Ranjan Das, the BJP government is moving towards granting citizenship to all non-Muslim individuals who entered Assam before December 31, 2014, as part of the CAA's provisions.
The organization cautioned that this initiative ignores the longstanding resistance from the people of Assam against the CAA. 'Despite significant protests in the state, the government is now employing underhanded methods to push it through,' the DYFI leaders stated.
They further accused the BJP government of advancing the communal agenda of the RSS, warning that such actions could have dire consequences for Assam. 'This is a perilous move that jeopardizes the state's identity and social cohesion.'
Labeling the directive as unconstitutional and a betrayal of Assam's interests, DYFI has called on the government to retract the order and halt any efforts to implement the CAA in the state.
