Rohit Sharma, the captain of India’s One Day International (ODI) team, is heading to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru for a fitness check. This will happen before he makes his comeback to competitive cricket. The Center of Excellence used to be known as the National Cricket Academy.
Rohit hasn’t played a competitive game since the Indian Premier League (IPL) back in 2025, where he played for the Mumbai Indians. His last time playing for India was in the Champions Trophy final this past March.
According to a report in The Times of India, Rohit will spend two to three days at the Center of Excellence. While he’s there, he’ll go through several tests, including the Bronco Test, which is new. The point is to make sure he’s fit enough to play in the upcoming ODI series against Australia. While he’s at the center, the experienced opening batter is also expected to practice. This should help him get back into the groove after being away from the game for almost three months.
A source told The Times of India that Rohit will be at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence starting September 13 for fitness tests. He’ll be there for a few days and will also practice at the facility to get ready for the Australia white-ball tour in November.
The source added that the Duleep Trophy final will be held at the Center of Excellence’s main ground from September 11-15. So, Rohit will do his fitness tests and practice at a different ground within the same facility.
There’s also a possibility that Rohit, along with Virat Kohli, might play for India A in a three-match one-day series against Australia A, which starts on September 30. All three games will be held at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. These matches could be a way for both players to prepare for the ODI series in Australia, which starts on October 19.
Rohit, who is 38 years old, has been training in Mumbai with Abhishek Nayar, who used to be an assistant coach for India. Both Rohit and Kohli stopped playing Test matches earlier this year and are now only playing ODIs. They had already retired from Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) last year.
