The tour will be aimed at assessing the damage caused by the recent floods, killing about 150 people, including about 130 pilgrims.
The Union Home Minister will reach Jammu on the evening of 31 August and will return to the Union Territory capital on the evening of 1 September. During this visit, he will also be accompanied by a team of officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
On the evening of 31 August, he will preside over a high -level meeting at Raj Bhavan to assess the damage caused by floods in the Jammu region.
Sources said, “Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will attend the meeting and will inform the Home Minister about the loss in the area, relief/rescue operations and restoration of infrastructure.”
Heavy rains, cloudburst and landslides have caused heavy damage to civil properties including roads, bridges, houses, shops, crops, watering in residential areas, and Mata Vaishno Devi Temple and Machail Mata Yatra have been disrupted.
Home Minister Amit Shah will meet pilgrims injured in Ardhkunwari on the way to Narayan Hospital in Katra city.
He will then assess the damage caused by cloudburst in Chashoti in Kishtwar district and the sudden floods, where 65 people were killed and more than 100 injured in the horrific cloudburst on August 14, most of whom were Mata Yatra pilgrims.
He will also visit some places in Jammu district, where the flood has caused heavy losses. The Union Home Minister will return to New Delhi on the evening of 1 September.
It can be hoped that the central government may announce a large relief package for the affected people and damaged infrastructure in the coming days.
